Sure, AI can make an ad, but it's never going to make you different.
AI can now make an ad most people can't spot as AI. Ipsos put 20 spots in front of 3,000 people, half machine-made, half human, and only a quarter of viewers were confident the AI ones were AI. So the "will anyone notice" debate is over. They won't.
Here's the catch. Indistinguishable is not the same as effective. In the same study, the human ads ran 14% stronger on short-term sales and 17% stronger on long-term brand equity. Credible, but not compelling. Good enough, and no further.
The reason is baked into the tools. AI doesn't invent, it synthesises, pulling from every ad that came before and handing you the midpoint. Which is fine, until you remember the entire job of a brand is to not be the midpoint. Ipsos found ads that break category convention are over 20% more likely to command attention, and breaking convention is the one move a machine trained on convention cannot make.
So AI just made average free and infinite. Every category is about to flood with competent, forgettable, technically-fine work. In that flood, the thing that was always valuable becomes the only thing that matters. The creative leap. The human truth. The point of view a model can't reverse-engineer, because you haven't had it yet.
Don't compare. Create.
The future is increasingly AI. The opportunity, still, is increasingly human..
